The premise of this spot is – “What would the world be like if you could grow Doritos on trees?”. But also is the question of do people prefer the Red ones or the Blue ones?
I was approached to direct this 30 second ad based on a very strict client-script. The biggest initial problem was that they wanted to push at least 60 seconds of material into 30. So we needed to negotiate what went in and what got left out. Perhaps if they could do a 60-second it would have time to breathe. The double-message is a lot to understand so quickly.
I created the split screens as a device to cram more shots in a short time (they were happy about that). I also created all the 3D doritos trees and all other graphics, including the pull out of earth and the news room (shot on green screen).
