“Rock of Ages” the Broadway show — This is the long form promo video (TV ads and other promos were also shot). Had a crew of several camera ops, including a 40-foot crane. We also shot a day of specialty setups with the cast without an audience.
When arriving to a shoot like this, one of the big obstacles is that the lighting is all set up for a big stage show, but it’s not appropriate for cameras. So we need to re-work the setups to play nicely. We also bring in our film lights for extra fill on faces, etc when the stage light would leave them in the dark.
In addition to directing cast and crew during the shoot, I also was in charge of creation of the 3D graphics (Exploding logo, etc) — and separately, I directed the videos that went on the video displays on the set of the show itself (There are some sections of the show where we shot the actors in advance on green screen and put them in Paris, etc).
